Curly Fumed Oak Slim Wooden Pen
This amazing piece of curly Oak came from a board sitting on the shelf of a local home improvement store, just waiting to be found. It has full figured curls running the entire length and width of the pen. The black 'stripe' you see is the pith, the center of the tree, adding a naturally straight line through the middle of the random curls and swirls.
After cutting and sanding this pen to its final shape I exposed it to ammonia fumes for 24 hours, a popular Oak treatment for the American Arts and Crafts style. The fumes trigger a chemical reaction in the wood causing it to darken. It was then given multiple layers of a hard acrylic coating that was buffed between each application. Once finished, it was waxed and buffed, leaving an amazingly smooth surface that can easily handle day to day use.
This handmade pen accepts Cross style ballpoint refills and comes with 1 black ink cartridge. Also included is an acrylic case to protect it during shipping.
